Thanks Nux, and this does sound like a bug. Added here:

It worked. Thank you.

Does anyone know why loading the default style doesn't pick a sensible color for the cursor? Is this supposed to happen, or is it a bug?

Maybe you've change the color of the cursor or something like that... Try changing Tools -> Fonts and Color -> Cursor Color (you may need to restart PN after changing this).

To start from scratch, after uninstalling PN, find you settings folder (e.g. search for "fortran.cscheme" file) and remove it. Then install PN again.

I am running Programmer's Notepad 2.2.0.2240 on Windows 7. Overall, I have liked it, but now the cursor is invisible. I have no easy way of telling where the text is going to go when I type. I can't remember any specific thing I did to trigger this behavior. It just started happening one day.

After some tinkering, I discovered that if I load certain preset styles, such as "Dark" or "Murky", I can see the cursor, but with the default style, the cursor is invisible. Is there anything I can do to fix this? I tried reinstalling PN and it didn't fix the problem.

You can go to Options|Editing and use the block caret instead of the line caret to make it bigger. You can also turn on the current editor line highlight in Options|Visual Help to help you find the cursor line.

1. This is a configuration option of the editor component that isn't currently available in the user interface. I think there is already a patch on sourceforge for it, so it will probably appear in one form or another in a future release.

2. I just tried to reproduce this and couldn't seem to:

a. search for "cheese"
b. no results found, so dialog appears
c. press <ALT>+<TAB> to switch away
d. press <ALT>+<TAB> to switch back

This seemed to work fine for me. What OS are you using?

Thanks.

Hello everyone,

I was looking for an editor to work well with large files. I started with Vim but, as I am working in Windows, I got my line endings screwed up twice (and had to edit various thousands of lines of C# code in order to kill the annoying "^M" thing) before I decided to abandon it.

I have started using Programmer's Notepad only today. Looks like it deals with large files fine.

I got 2 questions & would appreciate any help.

1. How do I get screen to move 1 line (instead of 4 lines) at a time when I move my cursor downwards or upwards in the page?
Ctrl-ArrowUp and Ctrl-ArrowDown is not a solution because it doesn't move the cursor, only the screen.

2. Bug? I open a file, search for a string inside the file, I get no instances of the string in the file so I get the warning pop-up, & with the pop-up open I use <ALT> + <TAB> to see my other open windows, but there is no way to go back to Programmer's Notepad using <ALT> + <TAB> because I CANNOT SEE it. The only way I have to bring the window to view is to move the pointer of my mouse & click on the taskbar.

Thanks in advance,
Jay

This is a known bug on non-XP/non-highcolour systems with this build. It'll be fixed before the stable build goes out.

It turns out it works in the development version. A problem with that version is the buttons at the top are not properly displayed, it looks like parts which are intended to be transparent are showing up as black. This is minor however so I am not really worried about it. Thanks a lot!

Try this just under the UserSettings tag:

<override-colours caret="e6e6fa" />

Let me know if that works.

I just spent a little while looking for a way to change the cursor for the "Plain Text" or "default" scheme, but couldn't find a way. All 30 other schemes can have a different default cursor however. The reason I would like it changed is because the black cursor is impossible to see if you have an inverted (white text on black background) setup. If anyone knows what name I would need to use in the UserSettings.xml file or some other way I would appreciate it
