1. I made a custom build which has a comment line for AutoComplete (*.api file based). It's quite helpful, but real intellisense would be awesome! It'd be a combination of autocompletion and ctags code outlining (View > Windows > Tags). What would it require? I guess threaded code analysis based on ctags and a large enhancement of the api autocomplete (group functions and specify a context, e.g. string methods).

2. Already requested: Tear away tabs

Hi,
I just discovered pnotepad and I must say I'm really impressed. Small, clean, but powerfull - really great work.

I'm just starting to using it, but let me ask a few questions regarding some features that I'd consider really useful. Maybe there are already there and I could not find them, but if not, please, can you tell whether you plan on adding:

1. Autocompletion with documentation tooltips to python extension modules (like Visual Studio Intellisense). It would be great if you just type e.g. "pn." and see what members does pn object contain. I know it requires semantical analysis and it would probably be a lot of work to do it for any python script, but it would be enough if it worked for pnotepad extension scripts.

2. Dragging tabs between pnotepad windows (and outside pnotepad window to create new window). What I mean is exactly what Google Chrome does. I've been looking for text editor with this feature for a very long time. Notepad++ kind of does this, but it is limited to saved files - i.e. you cannot drag tab with new file, it must be saved first.
This feature is very handy when you have two or more monitors and want to quickly put one edited document on each monitor. I know you can do it by opening second instance of pnotepad, but this way it's not as user-friendly, especially when you usually work with just one instance and want to use two windows just for short periods of time.

Thanks, M.

yay! Thank you simon. I got it working. I upgraded from an older version 1.x to latest using Windows XP. That was definitely not a default when upgrading.

This is a great feature!

Thanks Nux,

I don't know how to incorporate the python code you gave me. I found some text utility dll that promises some extra features 'textutil.dll', but I haven't been able to get that part working either. Suggestions?

Not sure about highlighting, but If you want to this with multiple selections then this might help:
http://enux.pl/download/pn2/Selections.py
You could even use it directly - just fill _arrSelections and run RestoreSelections function.

You can check basic usage of the MultiSel class here:
http://enux.pl/download/pn2/Tag.py

EDIT: I've forgot that I already generated some documentation for the class. You can find it here:

Notepad++ has API files in .xml format. PN now supports those, here are the simple instructions:

Say you're using PHP, get the php.xml API file from Notepad++ and save it in the Schemes directory as php.api. PN will now have auto-complete for built-in PHP functions.

The filename must be [schemename].api, for most schemes the scheme name is the language name in lowercase, but if in doubt you can find it in the .scheme file.

Working on it :)

Until you can automatically record macros, you can use the PyPN plugin to let you run Python code to script PN. Scripts can be given keyboard shortcuts too:

I like the program overall, but I think there is one feature it could really use: a macro system, or some way of recording and playing back sequences of typing and commands within the program. I would really like it if they are accessible via keyboard shortcuts like in Crimson Editor.

I tried using the "request a feature" command, but it doesn't seem to be working. When I tried to submit my request, I got a strange error.

Thank you.

A problem with Google's "issues" page in this regard is that it only offers two templates: "User Defect Report" or "Developer Defect Report", neither of which is suitable for an "Enhancement Request".

So I wonder how you get it to end up showing "Enhancement" under the "Type" column in the list? I guess I will have to experiment to find out!

Ok, I've merged your changes with the following exceptions:

- Setting readonly doesn't set the readonly attribute on the file, it seems wrong to do this as readonly may just mean readonly in PN.
- Removing readonly does remove the file attribute, but just warns if the file can't be changed.
- Refactored the GetAllFiles stuff in projects a little, simplifying it along the way.
- Currently any open project files won't be searched, this needs to be fixed but I don't want to save files on the user without warning.

Thanks very much for your changes!

Hi Simon,
i have done the following changes:
- Linenummer now correct by search at all open Files
- "current project folder" changed to "current project files"
Now you can search all files at the active project
I think that ar better as find files at the project folder only
- Option "Match whole word only" in find in files
- the Currenf File, Currenf Folder ,,, Open Files ar always at the same place in the Find where Listbox.
- test the File on writeprotect when a file is opend.
is writeprotect or you hav no permission -> the file open as writeprotect.
you can changed the writeprotect at the file menue or with the red toogle-button at the statusbar.
the writeprotect files ar marked in the open Files Window

I hope, you resume that.

I have send the changes Files to:
