I see how it worked. But not what I am asking. I am asking how to setup a format so that when I create a new HTML, the page will automatically be filled in as following (from W3S) :

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"

I now see that it's in
PN2\clips\web\xhtml.clips, but I didn't had this in
PN2\settings\web\xhtml.clips
So it seems like it wasn't updated. Bug or a feature?

It would probably be better if PN2\settings\ would only contain new, overridden or removed templates (e.g. clip name="table" is_removed="true"). Having thought of that adding a unique and unchangeable id for each clip would probably be a good idea.

BTW. I like the ${X:blah} thing and that you can add this few times and it gets duplicated. I've added this to my XHTML template:

<meta name="author" content="${2:Author}" />
<meta name="copyright" content="${2:Author}" />

Really good idea! Why an extra attribute if there can be a special name :D

It should rather be ~template or {template} than just template imo, to make clear, that it's not a regular clip. Furthermore, a leading ~ or { will put it at the bottom of clip list.

Yes, I've been thinking about something along those lines. Given that clips are tied to schemes now, I was thinking just something like a special clip name like "template".

For PN 2.4, what about adding a special attribute to textclip files, which will auto-insert a certain clip as template?

Look at the text clips for HTML, there's one called "HTML Doc" which starts a new HTML document for you, so:

1. Create new HTML document
2. Type "doc" and press tab, you now have a template to fill in.

I don't think it's good to share clips.

Right, currently there's no way to share clips between schemes. PHP/HTML are fairly unique in their relationship. Also note that the HTML scheme can quite happily edit PHP, the PHP scheme is useful mostly where it is assumed that no
<?php
block is needed to start a code section.

Hi. I've noticed that I can't use HTML clips in PHP. What is the advisable way to add some clips from one group to the other?

I found a workaround but it doesn't seem very nice - one just need to copy files from clips/web to clips/php. It works fine, but then when I change something in HTML clips they won't be changed for PHP.

So this is a very basic implementation of what you're looking for as a PN script. I don't have time to add the extras, but hopefully you could do so based on this:

import pn, scintilla

@script("Surround With", "Xml")
def RecordedScript():
	doc = pn.CurrentDoc()
	sci = scintilla.Scintilla(doc)
	text = sci.SelText
	surround = pn.InputBox("HTML/XML Surround With", "Type the tag name...")
	text = "<" + surround + ">" + text + "</" + surround + ">"
	sci.ReplaceSel(str(text))

This needs modifying to ignore attributes, and to support short tags too.

Hi.

I often use PN to edit xml-like files. An option to auto-close tags is nice, but not sufficient if you already have a text which must be enclosed in tags. I could use text-clips for that, but I would like to be able do that with keyboard like this:

Select text.

Press some key (e.g. CTRL+SHIFT+T) → dialog with an input appears.

Write tag name (and optional attrs after space).

Press ENTER → tag is inserted around selected text.

Similar script in JS:
http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedysta:Nux/htag.js
(look for "htag.insert" function)

Extra:
Recognition of short tags:
case 'img':
case 'meta':
case 'link':
case 'br':
case 'hr':
case 'input':

Optional autocomplete for tags in the input would be great.

I'm not very Python friendly, but maybe some has something like that already (or can do it based on JS)?

I believe this is not a bug on PN side - you shouldn't use inline comments in such context as inline comments usually mean: start comment from some character and stop at the end of line. This is how it works in most processors I know.

Ive searched for, but havent found any post of this o the forum.

Anywayz, the thing is that, in HTML + ASP development, if i have this kind of code:

HTML
<%aspCode 'aspComment %>
MORE HTML

pNotepad will render the ASP closing tag "%>" as a comment and will not understand that the ASP has been closed, marking up the rest of HTML, JS, CSS or whatever in ASP Schema.

Is there a way around this (except for breaking line, of course)?
I dont remember this having been always like this in much older versions.

BTW, i would like to make a suggestion (though i know here's not the place) to make CTRL+D duplicate a selected block, instead of only one line!

This might work:

First make sure that output capture is turned off in the second tab! If it works after this then you are good.

If that doesn't work:

Try changing the commmand to:
cmd

The options/arguments to:
/c replace_this_with_path_to_iexplore.exe http://localhost/%f

And leave the directory blank.

Tell me if that works.

Hey everyone.
First off, great job with PN2. I just started using it last month, and i've used it on a database project, it was incredibly useful.
Now, i must be really lamme with this things, cause i just can't ge IE to launch and see the output of the file im working on.
I created a tool. I defined the command as the IE executable and the parameters as http://localhost/%f, as i saw in one post in this forum. As is run it, the output window pops, the command line says its executed but IE doesnt get to open.
Any hints here?

It would be really nice if when double clicking inside of an html tag it would select all the text between <> so that a tag may easily changed. Also for end tags between </ and >. If anyone knows a way to do this, or if it would have to be added in source code please tell me. Thanks.
