I'm defining
%f\(%l,%c\)
as custom pattern. Upon testing, it shows correct values, but clicking an error in output window doesn't make the editor jump to the error position. Did I miss something?

Yup, reproduced. I'm sure I used to handle this case but it doesn't seem to work in the most recent builds. It doesn't work with back slashes either, so it's not as simple as the slashes being the "wrong" way around.

Please file an issue and I'll try and fix this for 2.1:

yeah i got the same issue.

"could not locate ../shared/spi.h. if the file exists, see help under "output" to fix this"

it seems pn can't refer the "../" to jump to the upper directory and then jump down into the shared directory.

i use avr-gcc, i blame the output parser :) j/k

Hi there

I'm currently using PN ver 2.0.8.718 and all seems to work great.
I tried to switch to the last release of PN 2.0.10 but the output parser is no more able
to locate the file

any suggestion?

Thanks, I can reproduce this with ActivePerl, I'll need to work out what's going on, but I reproduced it with this simple example:

a
b
d
f
e
c

->

a
b
c

With activeperl I had to change the parameters to use double-quotes instead of single.

I made this simple tool to sort lines:
Command: %(CYGWIN_ROOT)\bin\perl.exe
Parameters: -we 'print sort <STDIN>'
Pass my selection to this tool using Standard Input = true
Capture Output? = Replace my selection.

It partly works, but gobbles some (or all) of the lines. I've played around with different ways of doing it in Perl, all with the same result. The Perl works as it should when run from a Cygwin shell.

Has anyone seen anything like this before, or can offer a solution? Do you think it's a PN bug, or have I done something silly?

Versions:
PN v2.0.10.1010-dizzy

Hi Simon!

I sent the bug report to google. I noticed also that when Output window and Find Results window are tabbed into same window and that window is undocked, everything works fine. When either of those are alone and undocked, then this automatic docking happens.

Hi!

I've been using PN2 for a while and I'm really into it. I'm using a dual screen setup and I would like to keep the output window on the other screen to maximize the code space. The problem comes when I use tools (eg. WinAVR make command), the output window (which is undocked on the other screen) docks immediately back as docked in main window.

Is it a bug or a feature? Is there any way to get that output window to stay undocked when I use the tools?

Cheers!

Hi, no you don't need to exit and reload, although with the output window you might need to re-run a tool to see the change in configuration.

If that doesn't solve things for you, could you please include the contents of your UserSettings.xml file? It'll be somewhere like:

Vista/7: c:\users\your_user_name\appdata\roaming\echo software\pn2
XP: c:\documents and settings\your_user_name\application data\echo software\pn2
Other: c:\windows\profiles\your_user....

Hi,

I also wanted to add my appreciation of this software, which I've recently started using. My issue is with the color scheme for the Output pane. I was modifying the style colors for various schemes, e.g. Tools->Options->Schemes->Advanced->Scheme:Latex and then change the color choices under Styles->Math,Tag,etc. Then I noticed that inadvertently I'd also changed the back/fore-ground colors in the Output pane, so that now both colors are very dark and I can't read the foreground text in the Output pane (unless I highlight it so that it changes colors and becomes legible).

I've tried changing the Output color scheme by going to Scheme:Output and changing all the colors under Styles, to no avail; the Output pane still shows the same dark fore- and back-grounds. If these menus are not working well, which customization file can I edit by hand to correct this? BTW, I assume that I don't need to close & reopen the software each time I change some color scheme.

Thanx for suggestions.

Hi Simon!

Thanks for your fast answer!

I tried to change the working directory to c:\prjname\src, but this also did not work, because the source code is organized in further subdirs (c:\prjname\src\lib1, c:\prjname\src\lib2,...), which produce several libs, that are linked at the end to one final executable. Is there an option, that PN also looks in sub-folders of the current working dir?

Regards

Hi Andreas,

The problem is that PN needs the path to make sense according to the current directory. When you set the working directory to c:\prjname\make and the tool says the error is in "abc.c" then PN tries to find abc.c in c:\prjname\make.

Can it work if you set the working directory to c:\prjname\src?

Hi!

I got a non standard compiler output, which I want to parse in the output window. The compiler throws errors like:

"abc.c", line 67: Serious error: expected ';' after command - inserted before '}'

where I constructed the parse string

"%f", line %l

in order to get this string parsed. If I check the parsed string in the settings window, it seems to me, as if the parsing itself is working, but when I make a double click on the highlighted line in the output window, I got the following error in the status bar: 'Could not locate abc.c. if the file exists, see help under "Output" to fix this'

I created the project using the 'Magic Folder' function (but also added an erroneous file the standard way, but this did not remove the error). The layout of the project is the following:

\prjname\environment : Here are the PN's project files
\prjname\src : Here are the source code files in different sub directories
\prjname\make : Here are batch files with compiler/linker calls

The root of the project (in the project window)is set to: prjname
In the settings dialog of the project tool function, I set the working directory to: c:\prjname\make
and the execution command to: c:\prjname\make\make.bat

Can someone help me to fix this error, because I think that this editor is cool and it exactly fits the needs I have for editing my project.

Thanks in advance!

Andreas

Hi!
Thanks!

You're right. This is what's shown in the ouput:
\proj/test/main.cpp:66: error: `displ' does not name a type

And this is the location of the file:
c:\proj\test\main.cpp

I added a "C:" in my makefile, so for me this is not a (big) issue any more.

The main reason that the path, in the output, looks like this is because I use a cygwin based compiler toolchain.

Thanks again

It shouldn't do that, so it will be something to do with how the path in the output window not being easy to compare to the path PN thinks the file is in. Can you please show me some output from the compiler where this happens, and give me the full path of the file on the disk that it's trying to open.

Thanks.

Hi!

Thanks for an quite excellent IDE for embedded C/C++ programming.

Have a problem though, with the output parser, or more, a misbehaviour from PN when clicking on a compiler error.
If the file I am compiling is already open for editing in PN, and I click on a compiler error in the output window, PN opens a new instance of the already opened file.

Is this a known issue or? I've scrolled through the topics in this discussion-group and also looked in the BUG database, and have not seen anything on this.

Is it worth a fix?

Thanks

I assume you already know that you can toggle the Output window on/off with F8.
