I've problem with Search-in-files function. It don't work. Only work simple search function in current document.
Maybe it's a problem with open/stopped services of the OS (MS Vista 32)? Which services must work to allow realise the search-in-files function?

After upgrade of PN it still don't work.

Hey,

One of the features I learned to take for granted in some other editors is a Jump To File dialog, where you can enter a partial filename (such as myfile*) and be presented with a list of files found within your working directory.

I have written something in PyPN to offer some of this functionality. This is my first go at Python so any feedback on, or improvements to, the code are very welcome.

Rather than going into the world of GUI's I have made use of a new document within PN to display the output, I'd be interested to know how well this works for you on your systems.

http://scriptshare.rocketmonkeys.com/script/30

If you want suggestions for keyboard shortcuts to bind this to Netbeans uses Alt + Shift + O (for Open) and Eclipse uses Ctrl + Shift + R (for Resource). Personally I use Alt + Shift + A because it's handy.

--
Patabugen

p.s I realise this is a feature planned for PN in the future, this is intended as an interim measure.

I'm a new user and having some troubles with the search and replace function. I have created 2 projects, but when I try to do a search the "current project" is always greyed-out as well as the "in selection". When I go to the replace function I do have "in selection" active, but not "current project".

Is this a known issue? Thanks!

If you search/replace with the "Match Case" option enabled one word and then search/replace again with the same word with another casing the second time you press search/replace it change to the previous casing.
Example, you search and replace "Company" to "Client (one by one with the replace button). Then try to search and replace "company" to "client" (one by one with the search button). after the first replace of lowercase option the window return to "Company" and "Client".

In Crimson, all i have to do is highlight a word, hit F3 to search up, and F4 to search down. A huge time saver.

I was using search and replace with regular expressions on some code yesterday and came up with some questions.

1. The Mark All button highlights all occurrences of the search term to be hightlighted, but this highlighting is barely visible on a dark background theme. Is there a way to change the highlighting color?

2. Is there a way to unmark all marked items? (As a workaround, I can search for and mark a different sequence.)

3. When replacing all, is there a way to make it stop at the end of the document, not continue from the top?

Then I have a feature request related to this:

If one just did a Replace, I would like F3 to repeat the replace, instead of just repeating the find. Or have a command and keypress that repeats the replace operation. For example, in the Borland Delphi 7 IDE one can start a replace operation and replace one or more occurrences, then close the dialog, move the cursor around, type, etc, then press Ctrl+L to do another replace operation without going back to the dialog. If the last thing was a find operation, then Ctrl+L repeats that instead.

I will also try to add this request in Google Code.

Hi.

In Find/Replace window there are two options - Regular expressions and Allow backslash expressions but it seems to me that when I tick "Regular expressions" the "Allow backslash expressions" doesn't change anything. "Match whole word" and "Match case" also doesn't seem to work with RegExp.

So this seems to be a bug or maybe the options should be organized differently e.g.:

* Simple search expressions
[] Match case
[] Match whole word
[] Allow backslash expressions
* Regular expressions

BTW I've entered a wish for Find/Replace about PCRE parentheses matching (tagged expressions):
http://code.google.com/p/pnotepad/issues/detail?id=87
That would be an option in Regexp:

* Simple search expressions
[] Match case
[] Match whole word
[] Allow backslash expressions
* Regular expressions
[] PCRE tagged expressions

Having said all that I believe at least "Match case" should also be available for RegExp.

Here's a couple of things I noticed would be nice:

- When changing the colour/blend of the current line highlight, there's no visual feedback - the highlighted line is not visible when in the options. Especially a problem when trying to change the blend value.

- Go to line forgets the last line you entered. it would be nice if it kept the previous value you entered.

- Perhaps a personal preference, but if I bring up pn, it's got a new file open. If I open another file, it opens an additional tab. If I haven't modified the new pane, it would be nice if the file I've just opened replaced the 'new' file tab, because otherwise I'd close it anyway.

Cheers,

Hello All,

i have been having a wierd problem for several weeks now.

When I do a Ctrl+f and type something in "Find What" it starts doing a partial auto fill if the first charecter is in the left half of the keyboard :) - Wierd Problem Description!
For eg:
I do a ctrl+f and start typing "First" - it will start suggesting words starting with F that I had typed earlier - inline! - omitting "F". Meaning for "first" it will fill "eb" (since i had typed "feb" earlier).

This is the problem when words start with a,s,f,c,d,w... The only workaround i could figure was type someother character - type the actual word and the del the first character.

Pn Version: 2.0.6.1
OS: Issue seen on both Vista (Home) and Windows XP (Prof).

Only "Current Document" is selected in the Ctrl+F dialog box (wierdly the other document options are disabled even though there are other open document)...

Can someone Please help me out!

I just made a bug for this here:
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1873180&group_id=45545&atid=443219

"Regular and Backslash expressions should be mutually exclusive.

In the Search dialog, there are two checkboxes:
"Regular expression"
"Allow backslash expressions"

These are two conflicting options, so the checkboxes should be mutually
exclusive. It looks like right now the Regular expression takes precedence
if they are both checked, but you really shouldn't be able to check both
unless you can actually use both.

I propose that if you check one of these checkboxes, the other is
automatically unchecked. This would solve confusion, and more accurately
reflect how they really operate."

First of all thank you! I've finally found a good, clean, powerful, free editor for Windows. I'm very impressed with PN - keep it up, and please keep it clean while adding new features.

As for my request, the only problem I've found so far is that the find dialog goes transparent if I focus on a different window. This is a bit pointless and (more importantly) obscures what I've got in the dialog - especially if there's text beneath. It would be nice if this could be removed.

Thanks,
graham

Hi Simon,

If in a line only one word is located, and this is selected, so this word don't include in the find text.

you write in the findex.cpp:

 // Need to decide if we want to put the dialog into "Replace In Selection" mode
// and whether to include the selected text as the find text.
// Rules:
// There is a selection AND
// (The selection runs from the first character on the line to the last OR
// The selection spans multiple lines OR
// The selection is longer than 1024 characters)

is there a reason that a selected line (The selection runs from the first character on the line to the last) not included in find text?

Thanks,
Klaus

When running Find and Replace, if you have text already highlighted it will copy into the 'find' field automatically.
This happened to me as per normal except I happened to have an unusualy large amount of text already highlighted.
The find and replace box partially opened and the computer crashed with a memory dump message.
Perhaps dev team could include a condition for the highlighted text which prevents it from auto copying if its too big? Or is there something wrong with my pn.

I am not sure (yet) if this is just something special on my system (Vista RC2) but in the find dialog the "Find what" and "Replace with" text boxes of v2.0.7.619 are nearly unusable as the auto complete just clears the box on each and every key press. So, can anyone running PN2 on Vista either confirm or deny this?

P.S.: For a forum the new topic post textarea is remarkably small...

It would be nice to have a scheme for the Find in Files window, so that we could modify the text size, font, highlighting, etc.
