Hi,

I want to let F1 open a .chm file, that is associated with the C/C++ scheme. In the Options\Tools dialog, I created with Add a new entry, assigned F1 as shortcut and entered the following command:

C:\Windows\hh.exe D:\Dev\Engines\A8.30.1\3dgs_manual.chm

I just want to let the Windows CHM viewer show the above listed .chm file. In the Windws command line, I successfully can open it either with just entering the path to the .chm as well as using explicitely the hh.exe. PN always says

> "C:\Windows\hh.exe D:\Dev\Engines\A8.30.1\3dgs_manual.chm"
> Failed to create process: Das System kann die angegebene Datei nicht finden.
> Process Exit Code: 0
> Time Taken: 00:00

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance,

It's clear that PN should come with some default tools configured. What tools should I add by default and why?

The obvious:

Default Browser
Set for HTML files to view them.

Run
Set for batch/cmd files, to run them and capture output.

What else should be configured? Should PN include compiler/run configurations for languages even though the user may not have those tools installed?

Hi

I am trying to use the tools feature.

I current have a couple of tools shortcuts with a couple of makefiles, works great for compiling code etc.

But I want to add a tool to open up a GUI window. In my case, open a serial port terminal. I don't seem to be able to get tools to work when a GUI program is involved. It just hangs until i go "Stop Tools". For example I would like to use Tera Term and run:

ttermpro /BAUD=9600 /C=7

I added the tool to do this, it seems to run the command line no problems, but the GUI window never shows up, the process appears in Task Manager, but the Window is invisible.

It also happens with RealTerm, another serial port terminal.

Any tips on what I should do? Would this even be possible?

Thanks in advanced.

I've got a relatively simple tool I've rigged up to run my Python scripts that looks like this:

Name: Execute
Command: %(PYTHON_HOME)\python.exe
Folder: %d
Parameters: %f

It works great for running simple console apps and basic Tkinter GUI apps as well, but when I try to run it with wxPython code it just hangs. Is there anything I can do differently to make it run my wxPython scripts properly? Thanks. --cxg

The script will run Ok if "capture output" is NOT checked. However , I want to capture output.
Capture output: replace my selection

I don't select anything hit the command the PN freezes for 3 seconds and then coughs up a message boxe that tool is taking long time... do you want to wait more? I press yes and the text is indented just like expected.

Why does it take so long? using output window its as fast as command line.

I made this simple tool to sort lines:
Command: %(CYGWIN_ROOT)\bin\perl.exe
Parameters: -we 'print sort <STDIN>'
Pass my selection to this tool using Standard Input = true
Capture Output? = Replace my selection.

It partly works, but gobbles some (or all) of the lines. I've played around with different ways of doing it in Perl, all with the same result. The Perl works as it should when run from a Cygwin shell.

Has anyone seen anything like this before, or can offer a solution? Do you think it's a PN bug, or have I done something silly?

Hi All,

Been trawling through here and can't find an answer. I have put in a tool to set up a new rails project and I am getting the following error when I execute it

Hi!

I got a non standard compiler output, which I want to parse in the output window. The compiler throws errors like:

"abc.c", line 67: Serious error: expected ';' after command - inserted before '}'

where I constructed the parse string

"%f", line %l

in order to get this string parsed. If I check the parsed string in the settings window, it seems to me, as if the parsing itself is working, but when I make a double click on the highlighted line in the output window, I got the following error in the status bar: 'Could not locate abc.c. if the file exists, see help under "Output" to fix this'

I created the project using the 'Magic Folder' function (but also added an erroneous file the standard way, but this did not remove the error). The layout of the project is the following:

\prjname\environment : Here are the PN's project files
\prjname\src : Here are the source code files in different sub directories
\prjname\make : Here are batch files with compiler/linker calls

The root of the project (in the project window)is set to: prjname
In the settings dialog of the project tool function, I set the working directory to: c:\prjname\make
and the execution command to: c:\prjname\make\make.bat

Can someone help me to fix this error, because I think that this editor is cool and it exactly fits the needs I have for editing my project.

Thanks in advance!

Running windows XP and Programmer's Notepad version 2.0.08.718.basie

I want to be able to run a perl script by using the tools menu in PN2. I have set up perl in Options . . . Tools (not as a project tool, but as a global one.) I think I have set it up correctly, launching in the current directory, and using the file name parameter (with extension.) If I choose to capture output, then perl seems to run, but only a few random lines of what should be a couple hundred lines appear in the output window, separated by a lot of blank space. If I choose not to capture output, then the script seems to run OK in a command prompt box, but the output goes by so quickly, and then the box closes, so I can't be entirely sure.

All my LaTeX tools run properly from PN2, so I think I know how to set up tools properly.

Any suggestions on how to get perl to run correctly?

Thanks.

I found a great tool to use together with pnotepad: "Character Set Converter" by Benjamin Kalytta. This tool lets you do several character set conversions. I use it with the following configuration (go to Tools -> Options -> Tools):

Name: Convert Encoding
Command: [Path to]/charsc.exe
Parameters: "%d%f" /scs=%? /dcs=%? /replace
Shortcut: STRG + ALT + E (or whatever you like)

Using this configuration, it will ask you for a source and a destination character set and then convert the currently opened file. For available encodings, refer to the manual. Some times one needs to reload the file before seeing the changes. You can use my script at http://pnotepad.org/forums/topic/267 to rapidly reload the current file.

The tool is available at http://www.kalytta.com/tools.php

Greetings,

I've been searching everywhere for an editor to use with Java. I'm new to programming and I do NOT want to spend an eternity learning the software I use to write software ;)

I started using TextPad because it was recommended in the book I am using, and it was nice, but I love Programmers Notepad! Your website, the forum, the software, the icons, everything is minimalistic and I love it! Clean, usable, and powerful...perfect.

I just need two little buttons to make it 100%. I need compile and run buttons that will open the javac and java commands in the command window on Windows XP so that I can test my Java programms from the promt without having to leave Programmers Notepad to do it. I noticed there is a way to add user tools, but I am not sure how to do this. Anyone have it set up this way that would be willing to share the steps with me?

Thanks,

Ok, I've been using PN for a while, mostly for Java. I have a javac and java tool set up. What I need is something similar for running g++ via Cygwin, and the resulting .out file. The tools command is for cmd.exe, right? I guess I need a way to start cygwin from cmd.exe, then execute commands within it. Is this possible?

Thanks,

hi there.
well done, good sir! well done! :)

very nice. lightweight but not too lightweight. love the text-clips -- again, very nicely done there.

my wish-list item: give us something to integrate a "browser" a little more easily. here's what i've got for Seamonkey, but it's not doing quite what i want.It opens the browser. :)
but the URL is all "URL encoded", so it requires editing, and the full path i suppose is NOT what i want either... but it's "close".

http://localhost/$(ProjectPath)%f

hmph-- i suppose you don't need to do anything there-- it's really on "we", the users to go w/ that-- and it's awesome the way you've got that part of it setup, don't get me wrong (as one who deals w/ stuff in linux where you actually have to open up a dot-properties file, and make changes in there-- your "tools" window in comparison is a godsend-- but maybe add a Prog. Variable to reference the httpd:htdocs path? i realize you've not necessarily targeted web dev'rs here, and that's admirable, but perhaps that one little bit wouldn't hurt? not sure how you'd do it-- haha-- obviously!!

thanks again. and thanks for offering it for such a great price!!!
i was using EditPlus in my QuickLaunch -- but integrating it w/ FileZilla, and to have that Nag-Screen coming up all the time (yeah, i'm an ass, and i didn't buy it yet. i do plan to, honest!) -- it's make the on-the-fly-editing of web docs a little less "easy". i think i'm going to switch my Filezilla prefs to open PNpad instead. ;)

thanks! woot! woot!! ::sounds of crowd cheering in bground:: ...

PS. I tried installing PNPad under WinE on Linux ( winehq.org ), but it didn't work. i think the error i get is something about the sys having a hard time w/ the C+ library and compiling error (if i recall correctly, as i'm on WinXP presently). i'd love to have it available to me there (i know that might sound silly w/ all the great linux text-editors, etc...)
that's just an FYI-- i wouldn't expect you to care about the WinE-o's. :)

Are there instructions on creating your own XML file in the tools folder?

I have the Programmers notepad2 that came with the WinAVR package. I was able to copy and then modify the WinAVR.xml file for the most part but I can't get the 'shortcut' attribute to work. I also want to move some of the tools out of 'global' so they will only work with the specific file type but that dosn't seem to work either. I wan't to use the XML file instead of the "GUI's tools->options" since there are multiply computers that need this configuration ( some of which are out of state/country ).

Using a 'tool' to run wxPython fails unless "Capture Output" is de-selected.

If that check-box IS selected, then no output appears from print statements, and no windows appear either.

Is this a bug or what?

Hi
I just installed C4ARM and NP2.
By building the EX11 I get the following message:
> "make.exe" all

> Failed to create process: Das System kann die angegebene Datei nicht finden.

> Process Exit Code: 0
It seeems that the path to make.exe is unknown.
What's wrong with my installation?

Is there a tool that will allow PN to do an XSLT transform on and XML file... I wouldn't of thought it would take much doing if there isn't one out there.

I guess, ideally, you just need to be able to specify 2 files to a tool that would process the transformation and pass the response back to the output window.

Couple this with the 'auto-closing' tag feature I understand is currently being developed, and I think that you will have an excellent XML / XSLT development environment.

If not possible, is there another way to format XML automatically?

Hi, When I first install PN2, under the TOOLS menu there was ADD menu and I added a sample menu. Later I saw that I could not edit it. It did not disappear even when I uninstall and reinstall the program. I made a very detailed search in hdd (inside all the files) and in registry but I cannot find where PN2 stores this added tool item. Probably it encrypts it. Can any one tell me, how to remove this added tool menu? Or how to uninstall the program totally?
