@maXmo: Icons in the menu is a very common Windows UI tool, most professional programs have them as they help people to associate toolbar actions with their menu counterparts.

@h3028: I am currently building on Win 7 RC and I try to test personally with at least one pre-Vista windows install as well. For the rest, that's why there are testing releases :)

No, no, switch to system menu is the right thing. I hate programs with those homemade menus. Lol, there were icons in menu?

h3028, you can resize your pn window to 4:3 aspect and get vertical space back.

Another design typo I noticed: main toolbar has odd padding at its bottom.

Thanks for clarifying Simon. The rebar change is not that bad really. I only use the toolbar to change the highlighting scheme. I could just hide it and use the menu if the additional vertical space <i>really</i> meant that much to me. ;)

The lack of icons in the menus isn't really an issue for me. I know you've mentioned aesthetics are important to you though (and I appreciate that). I was just noting other changes I observed from the previous version that might have been due to theme differences (Aero v. Classic) just in case you didn't know. Out of curiosity what Windows version and theme do you build/test on?

h3028: The rebar was removed when adding the customisable toolbar and removing the multiple original ones - it didn't seem to have a lot of purpose any more and added a lot of code. PN tries to balance speed and simplicity against powerful features, and retaining the rebar just to support the single scenario of toolbar on the same row as the menu didn't seem worthwhile.

That being said, if there's significant compaint about it being missing then I'll put it back. Sadly the lack of icons in the menus is a side-effect of this change, they will come back but more code is needed :)

The black toolbar icons in the mini-toolbar will be resolved before the next release, and I intend to allow you to hide that toolbar and add the buttons to the main toolbar.

Also, as of version 970 I can no longer move the toolbars on the same "row" as the menu bar (the menu bar is not a rebar anymore). This may have been changed to make pn compatible with Win7. It's not a devastating loss, but vertical screen space is in short supply on these widescreen monitors.

I have the same display oddity. WinXP with classic theme. Also, there are no icons in any menus (file, edit, etc., context menu).

Simon, out of curiosity, why are mini-toolbar buttons not on the main toolbar instead?

EDIT: I just noticed your poll about my question. :)

No, it didn't start in 970. I see it in 962 (haven't upgraded yet), and vaguely recall that I saw it in 926 too. This is on XP Pro SP3 using the "classic" theme. (More accurately, I go to System control panel, Advanced, Performance Settings, Adjust for best performance, then turn a few things back on.)

Also, on my Win2K laptop at home I have the issue with the black mini toolbar icons in all of these versions.

Weird, it looks like the toolbar button sizes are too big - did this just start in 970?

With the new build, the mini toolbar is cut off in the lower part, the icons are cut off a bit.
