   Using v2.0.6.1, I have turned off "Tab order controlled by recent use". However, pressing Control+Tab goes in reverse order through the tabs (right to left). And pressing Control+Shift+Tab goes in forward order (left to right).

   Expected: Control+Tab should go forward/right, adding Shift should go backward/left.

   I don't know if this still happens in the beta, I will try to install later and check. Just wanted to know if this was a known issue.

   The Ctrl-tab behaviour (with that option turned off) is the windows basic behaviour which isn't tab controlled but Z-Order controlled which means windows selects windows based on its own visibility order (confusing I know). I'll be adding tab-based ordering some time soon.

   Any update on this? The current release still doesn't cycle through the tabs in the order as they are displayed (when turning off "Tab order controlled by recent use")

   For me, the expected behavior is Ctrl-Tab to move forward in the tabs and Ctrl-Shift-Tab to move backwards. Programmer's Notepad instead seems to ping-pong between all tabs which is unexpected.

   Karma; the "ping-ponging" is using most-recently-used order, which is more like windows' Alt+Tab. You're thinking in the "left to right" order, like firefox/ie's tabs. It's a personal preference which one is a better default, and you can definitely change it to suit.

   However, I agree with the OP that Control+Tab should move right, Control+Shift+Tab should move left. Hopefully it'll get fixed sometime soon.

   Windows explorer also uses alt-shift-tab for moving backwards instead of ctrl-shift-tab. :)

   Jumpfroggy is right about the reason for the current recent use behaviour. I'm definitely going to add the different behaviour, and have just set it for being done before the next stable release. Should get to it soon.

   Couldn't seem to see an existing issue for this, I know there was one at Sourceforge and could have sworn it had made it over to Google Code. Never mind, here's a new one to track:

   I just want to be sure - the option "Tab order controlled by recent use" doesn't really do anything in current stable release or does it? It seems to me that it is currently always by recent use.

    In the stable release they are different implementations of recent use :) When you turn the option on, PN takes over from Windows itself and implements visual-studio like window ordering (my preference). This means that if you press Ctrl-tab, then release, then ctrl-tab again, you'll toggle between two files.

    In the testing release (very soon to be stable) you'll find that recent use hasn't changed, but if you turn this option off you now get firefox-style tab ordering.
